Since 1910, The Jennings Building has been a landmark on Main Street in Joseph, Oregon, evolving to serve the changing needs of rural Wallowa County. The Jennings is being transformed from a derelict apartment building into an outpost for artists and a beacon of considered design and gracious hospitality in the mountains of Northeast Oregon. Unable to renovate the building all at once, bespoke hotel rooms were designed one at a time, each by a different designer. Inspired by traditional woodworking methods and craft and by the existing building, the design for Room 5 includes all finishes, millwork, and furniture, all designed, fabricated, and installed by Observation Studio. Details of the existing building are transformed into complex and dynamic surfaces in both plaster and wood.
